Math Core: This is our main math lesson. This math block is used to develop deep understanding of math concepts and grow problem solving skills. We are currently working on addition & subtraction facts and solving word problems. Math Club: This is a time where we review, reteach, or extend Math Core lessons.
Literacy
Interactive Read Aloud: This is where the teacher reads a book to the class as a whole and models how students should be reading to themselves. The teacher will model different skills and the students will then be able to turn and talk to actively try them on their own. Skills will be taught such as: how to predict, how to retell the beginning, middle, and end and how to make connections etc.
Mini-Lesson: This is where the teacher teaches a specific strategy or skill. This is done with a big book or text available to each and every student.
Independent Reading: This is where your child will read books on their level to themselves to try and practice the skill taught in the mini lesson. During this time the teacher will be pulling guided reading level groups focusing on a certain strategy needing intervention or a group of students reading on the same reading level.
